The Federal Republic of Nigeria is made up of 9 regions which include North, South, East, West, South East, South West, North East, North West and North Central which is also referred to as the Middle Belt region.

These nine (9) regions can also be broken down into states and when done, you’ll realize the country Nigeria has a total of 36 states and then, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which made it a total of 37.

Local government areas in Nigeria vary for individual state. This simply means that the number of local government area in state A may however differ from that of State B and C. Though, this is not really what we are here to talk about. We only thought of giving more fact to add value on this page.

The total number of local government areas in Nigeria in 2022 is seven hundred seventy four or 774 in figures which is spread across the 37 states in the country. The Federal Capital Territory has the lowest number of local government area in the country (6), however, it is not the smallest state in the country.
